Within the framework of its Global Strategy for Health and Environment, WHO is supporting the development of documentation centres and reference libraries in countries at local, regional and national levels so that scientific and technical information on health and environment becomes more widely and readily available. More specifically, WHO has - in collaboration with UNEP - created the Global Health and Environment Library Network (GELNET). The network aims to facilitate effective and systematic provision of scientific or technical health and environment information to decisionmakers, teachers, researchers, etc. The idea underlying GELNET is to take advantage of the fact that WHO provides its publications free of charge to at least one library in most of its Member States. The objectives of GELNET are thus:
