Description
Excerpt: The Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program (IRLNEP) and the St. Johns Water Management District, working in cooperation with the South Florida Water Management District, have recently completed a study to clarify contributions of nitrogen to the Lagoon from on-site disposal systems (OSDS). The report, entitled On-Site Sewage Disposal Systems Pollutant Loading Evaluation - Test and Validation of Indian River Lagoon Nitrogen Model, focused on developing and calibrating modeling tools to evaluate the effects of development and in particular, on-site sewage disposal systems (OSDS) on coastal water quality. The results of this study were released in March, 2000, and provide follow-up to an earlier study of nitrogen loading sources.
