About the Conference: Since 1958, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has sponsored national gatherings about health statistics. This year’s National Conference on Health Statistics, with the theme ‘‘Health in the New Millennium: Making Choices, Measuring Impact,’’ provides a forum for Federal, State, and local government representatives as well as universities and professional associations to share their statistical knowledge and experience. This diverse gathering lends a rich variety of perspectives on current issues concerning health information in the United States. Technical and philosophical issues are discussed during each conference session, and the proceedings serve as a valuable reference in addressing current issues.
