SCRIPT Sony eBooks Welcome to the World Public Library. My name is Mia. WPL Open Today we are going to learn how to download resources, from the World Public Library, for viewing on your Sony PRS 500, 600, or T1 device. To get started, you will need A personal computer or laptop An internet connection or data service A Sony PRS 500, 600, or T1 eReader A sync cable for your device And an eLibrary card for the World Public Library During this tutorial I will be using the Chrome browser, but these steps will work for all major browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Let’s begin: Connect your Sony device to your computer using the sync cable provided with your device. Your device will notify you when it is properly connected. If you are using a T1 reader, you will need to click Data Transfer Mode to proceed. Now, using your computer, open a web browser and navigate to the World Public Library website. You can access the library by typing WorldLibrary.org into the searchbar of your browser. Next, sign into the World Public Library website by clicking the Sign In tab at the bottom of the screen. Then enter in your username Password and click the Sign In button. Now, the homepage of the World Public Library will automatically load. Before we talk about downloading eBooks, let’s take a brief moment to investigate some of the exciting ways to discover eBooks and other resources in our library. First, our eBook Finder. This is a great tool for finding interesting resources quickly. Simply type in a search term and click search. We also have a collection of video tutorials, like this one, taking you step by step through many other useful features of our library. In addition you will find a variety of collections hand curated for readers of all ages Now let’s get started: If you’d like to browse for a book, scroll back to the top of the page and select the books tab from the main menu. This will take you to the eBook Library Collections page. Select any one of our collections to continue browsing for a book. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a specific book or resource, you can search for it using the “eBook finder tool.” Today I’m going to search for one of my personal favorites, “1984” by George Orwell. The eBook finder tool will help make author title and article suggestions based on the information entered in If you see something of interest, feel free to select it, if not, continue with your search. This brings us to the search results page which includes eBooks, articles and other resources. You can filter through the type of resource you’re looking for by using the Refine Your Search bar located on the left side of the page. If you place your mouse cursor over a book cover, you can preview useful information about that book such as author, publisher, file size, and the collection your book belongs to. When you find the resource you’re looking for, click the resource image or title to load the book details page. As you can see, your book has already opened and is available to read immediately. By clicking here, you can translate the text into other languages, like french. The tabshere contain author title and subject information relevant to your book in the form of encyclopedia articles These articles are supplied by World Heritage Encyclopedia. We have also provided collections of additional resources related to the book you are currently viewing. The World Public Library gives you several options to save your book for reading when not connected to the internet including Google Drive and Dropbox, But for now, lets save this eBook directly to your Sony device by right-clicking the eBook’s cover. Then select Save Link As your browser may also list this option as Save Target As or Download Linked File As. In all browsers, a new window will appear asking where to save your eBook. Locate and select your device from the left part of this window. Now click Save. When you are sure your download has finished, please remember to eject your device before disconnecting it. To eject your device, locate and click the Windows Start button Then select Computer from the Windows Start Menu A new window will appear displaying the devices connected to your computer. When you locate your device, right-click on its icon, and select Eject. You may now disconnect your device from your computer If you are using the PRS 500 or 600, your eBook will be located in the books folder of your device. T1 users should see their eBook on the front page of the T1 device automatically Congratulations, you have successfully added a new eBook to your device. Remember, magazines, graphic novels, and audiobooks are also available from the World Public Library. For more information on downloading audiobooks, please watch our tutorial about downloading audiobooks to your computer. Thanks for watching. Until next time, this has been Mia with the World Public Library.
