Description
A look into the psychological individuation process as described by Jung via the medium of fantasy. How to navigate the maze of projections to overcome fear.

Summary
The book chronicles an archetypal hero's journey of 30-year-old Marjorie from current day suburbia into a surreal world containing seven realms. Her entry is abrupt and unexpected, as it breaks forth from resignation and disillusionment. At first not knowing whether she is intoxicated, dead or dreaming, she gradually discovers that her interactions in each realm are bringing her face to face with hidden aspects within herself. These need to be confronted if she is to take responsibility for her own experiences and prejudices. Her biases present themselves in the form of various rulers and nemeses. She is led through this labyrinth by an Animus-like figure called Kingston who reminds her of an imaginary friend she had as a child. He is a musician like herself and reintroduces her to dreams long buried by the need to please. Each world is rich with symbolism and draws inspiration from Marjorie’s knowledge of Jungian Archetypes, Eastern philosophy, art, music and literature. As her experience becomes more lucid, she starts using new knowledge gained to broaden the filters through which she perceives ultimate reality and finally the Universe at large. The message of the book can be expressed by a quote by German theologian Meister Eckhart: “If you're frightened of dying and holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.”

Excerpt
She heard the fly buzzing right beside her, only millimetres away from her left ear, but before she could turn to catch it, it flew into the mirror through to the other side and sat down on the shoulder of her now rapidly dissipating reflection. With this, all the mirrors in the castle began to crack. Marjorie cowered and covered her head with her arms. The castle was being destroyed. Thousands of shards fell to the floor amidst this play of colour, and something caught her eye. From under her hunched frame, she saw that in the broken pieces of glass in which she just saw her reflection was now reflected everyone she had ever encountered in her life. She was reflected as Susan in one piece of broken mirror, as Kingston in another, as Rina, her mom, her dad, Gerard, Frederick her music teacher, Lisa, Martin, George, Jeff. She was also reflected as a puppy she had as a child, as all the animals she had ever eaten, as insects and even as plants. The reflections were infinite and, in every moment, new images materialised. The pieces of glass now fell all around her and she could sense herself looking back at herself through the different coloured eyes and perspectives being reflected back at her.
