Description
Parallel worlds touch where two places are so similar that one leads to the other. Only people more perceptive than the norm can sense them, though. Einar follows the much more "knowing" Agnethe from one world to the next, each seeking their destiny.

Summary
When Einar and Agnethe discover that the mysterious treatment at "the Institute" has given them the ability to "know" things they shouldn't be able to, they have to make some decisions. Should they go to the place Agnethe mysteriously knows of? Should they leave their Earth behind? What will they find there? What might parallel Earths and parallel civilizations be like? And, knowing what they know, what should they make of their lives? If they aren't going to stay put and be lab rats, should they leave? Where should they go? What will they do there? And, knowing what they know...just what does it mean to be knowing? What is the interplay between knowing, thinking, and feeling? Does knowing make them superhuman? Or inhuman? Follow Einar and Agnethe as they seek their destinies and their humanity, searching for them somewhere, on the roads between worlds.

Excerpt
Snow was falling by the time the sun set, and I soon found myself in the monotonous state I'd been in last night. The frozen crust crumpling just a bit, the sharp wind, feathery with snow, icy against our eyes. No other skin was exposed, but it was once again too dark for the goggles. Winter nights have a certain, stark beauty. This far north, the nights last for hour upon hour; on a clear night, the stars glitter brilliantly. This clouded night, with the snow falling, the world instead became tiny, fading into pale shadows just meters away. The air seemed crystalline, the ground smoothed out by the drifts. Nothing moved, and I could almost believe the least impact would fracture the world. And that's exactly what happened. I fell to my knees, shouting wordlessly. My eyes had gone blind, my ears echoed with a vast soundless noise that swallowed my shouts into silence. My head was stuffed with cotton, or maybe guncotton, the way my skull felt blown to pieces. I moaned without hearing myself, pounded at the snow without feeling it. Then, for a little time, I felt nothing at all.
