Between 1916 and 1945 Valesca Reimann, from South Australia, taught Western classics, Latin and mathematics at Trinity College, Kandy, in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Trinity College was founded on Christianity in a largely Buddhist, Hindu and Moslem country. Sinhalese and Tamil cultures added to the mix. The boys at the school were mostly from these cultures and also came from nearby countries. The school was run along the lines of an English public school. In this book, Valesca Reimann tells how she navigated through this, fell in love with the people and the country and added jungle adventures and visits to historical places along the way - ever curious and mostly undaunted.
